WBH works towards environmental preservation through community empowerment. WBH’s work with SETAPAK falls under the following land and forest governance themes;
Access to information
WBH is significantly contributing towards increased access to information related to land and forest governance across South Sumatra. On a provincial level this involves supporting the government in implementing a standard operating procedure and public information officer to manage public access to information. WBH is advising the government on a list of public information, and supporting the government in establishing a website to present this information. They are also assisting in the development of a database of maps of forest and land, to support ‘One Map’ in South Sumatra. These initiatives are integral to improving transparency as they fill a gap in systems for the provision of information. Having synergy in information is integral to legitimizing action on deforestation and poor governance.WBH is doing similar work on district levels, improving access to information. In Musi Banyuasin and Banyuasin, WBH is supporting the development of a work plan for production forest management units. This involves conducting community forest mapping to identify local land tenure boundaries. Training is being provided for those involved in public information access and management as a counterpart to improving databases and systems. In Ogan Komering Ilir, environmental assessments are being conducted and public information lists are also being established to support access to information.
Rule of law
In Musi Banyuasin WBH is reviewing permit documents to ensure the regulations for production are legal and appropriate.
